Dawn over Cranborne Chase, Wiltshire. Covering 984 square kilometres (380 square miles) of Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset, the area is the sixth largest of the 41 areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Once an expansive, open landscape of grasslands and woodlands interspersed with streams and wetlands. It was an area favoured by the very earliest settlers of the British Isles and the southern half was made into a hunting area by the Saxon monarchs. Today, nearly 90% of the area is farmed and the archaeological heritage is evident throughout the landscape. The area is a rich repository of biological and natural heritage and this includes the people who live within this extraordinary landscape.

Ploughing on Court Hill, Kingston Deverill. After the wheat had been harvested, the field was being ploughed and formed an attractive horizontal pattern in the morning light.

The symbol of London, Tower Bridge is a low-level bascule bridge, openable for ship traffic, with a high-level walkway above. The original lifting mechanism was a steam-driven hydraulic system. Here this road bridge being raised in order to allow a ship to pass along the River Thames. Construction commenced in 1886 and was completed in 1894.
